R.O.S stands for Reactive Oxygen Species. We believe that R.O.S is the root cause of all skin problems.
Oxidative stress occurs when the concentrations of reactive oxygen species (R.O.S) and antioxidants (AOX) are not in balance. For example, when our skin is exposed to excessive concentrations of R.O.S or when the antioxidative defense system is weakened. Oxidative stress plays an important role in the ageing process, and in the overall strength and the appearance of our skin. R.O.S can cause disruption to the skin's connective tissue and lead to the loss of its elasticity and consistency. R.O.S can also attack lipid-rich membranes as well as proteins and cellular DNA.
Environmental pollution, exhaust gases, UV radiation, microorganisms, chemicals, cigarette smoke, viruses and foreign substances all form exogenous sources of ROS.
